Judge Jeanine Video on Benghazi Investigation

Judge Jeanine's  report of the testimony at the Benghazi hearings is most unsettling.
Pondering all the info that's been reported on Benghazi can be overwhelming, but her instructions for jurors is good advice for us Americans as well.......
access the truth , use common sense in deciding who's credible, who has something to gain, something to loose, who has a motive to lie, telling if someone lies once its free to assume they'll lie to you again

Yippeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!

Spring is finally here.

Monster Man has been burnin' his weeds...not WEED.

He got himself a fandangled weed burner that runs off propane so he's been scorchin' everything in his path. Thankfully he aint  burnt down the house....yet.

All the critters are in Spring Mode, sitting and hatching.

2 Swedish Ducks

.... the lighter one is a Blue Swedish Duck and the other a Black Swedish Duck.
Hope they both turn out to be female so we get more duck eggs.
Found we enjoy them better than chicken eggs, but we're keepin' a few chickens because the chickens lay all year....the ducks stop laying come winter.

Can't be without eggs!

4 chicks

......theres 2 Barred Rock and 2 Americana or Easter Egg'rs.
Went for Fruity names....Lemon Drop, Peaches, Blueberry and Blackberry.

They're names are lil' reminders of the Fruit Of The Spirit song.
"Gods Apple is Love
His Orange is Patience, Banana is Self-Control
His Lemon is Peace, His Kindness a Peach
and my life is da bowl"

Are you filling yer
"Life Bowl" with Gods Fruit?

Hoping one of the Barred Rock will be a rooster cuz the dang Easter Egg'r Roo we have charges me whenever I enter the coop.
Stupid bird dont know who feeds him
....or could feed ON him!

We're adding 15 Pheasant to the flock this year.
They're shipping from Cackle Hatchery, and due to arrive May 20th.
We've been working on a brooder pen for them, and getting the Pheasant Coop ready.
Soon as we get them we'll post pictures.

FYI
Not naming these birds.....it's hard to eat a critter with a name.

Lights Out!

video

I was short on candles so
Big Dawg had it easy with only 13 candles to blow out.

Thank you for the cards , e-cards, emails and phone calls that made his day even more special.

It's time to tuck in the ol' fella
...tomorrow he gits to be 60
....I mean 20 (snicker snort ) all over again

and eat more cake too!

On April 13th.......

....many many moons ago, the Monster Man entered the world,
and the place aint ever been the same!

Ya made it a looooong way....hats off to ya, Big Dawg!!

For way too many birthdays Monster Man has been stuck on Sweet 16
....but this birthday he agreed to turn 20.

There are a few of us that know his real age,
but don't ya think we should let him think like a 20 yr old for as long as he wants?

Yeah,
you go Monster Man!!

Since we've gotten debt free neither of us are too eager to make big purchases, and we're keeping to our plan to continue scaling down where possible,

BUT

we splurged on a new tractor for his birthday that's very eco-friendly

and finally got the goat & lamb we've been wanting too

 Happy 60th Birthday, Big Dawg!
May you and that new tractor cover many more miles before ya come to the end of yer....uh....hmm.....errr....

hose.

Repurposed Mirror

Yesterday we woke to snow on the ground and it was very cold & windy so we played indoors, fiddlin' with ideas for a bathroom mirror.
Stickin' to our motto " waste Not want Not " we looked around at what we had that wasn't being used.
We searched the left over lumber pile, the horse trailer, under beds and in closets , and this is what we came up with.

Scrap lumber, an unused horse halter and an old used horse shoe became a mirror

Below is a photo of the full effect

The Farm Light will illuminate yer purdy face while ya dry yer dainty fingers on the finger towel thats hanging from what used to be the ear strap on the halter.

The votes came in from our friends who participated in helpin' to make the decision between glass doors or a shower curtain.
Guess what got the most votes?

We're waiting for the Outhouse Shower Curtain to arrive from Rods.com

In the meantime we'll be attempting to make a plank bathroom door with an moon cutout in it,
some towel bars or hooks that we're thinkin' we'll use some of our used horse shoes for,
and
a shower curtain rod  and toilet paper holder.
We're considering making the last two items from pipe.

Once all that's done, we can move on to our bathroom!

For the Inquiring Minds

Since we've had numerous folks ask how the bathroom project was coming along we decided to reveal the bathroom re-do a bit early.

We installed galvanized metal on the ceiling and shower/tub

Drawin' on the walls is allowed for this step,
Monster Man didn't get in trouble.

The tub got a front panel too.

 Glass doors

or shower curtain?????

We like this shower curtain............BUT

we arent decided for sure yet.

The sink wall

where the vanity door is still under construction

Wood planks and metal wainscot surround the sink walls

Okaaaay........now ya'll seen whats been happenin'

Back to work on the vanity door!

Our DIY Bathroom Project

Monster Man built this interior barn style door that leads to the guest 'water closet' thats off the laundry room.
The way the original door opened sort of cramped the laundry room.

With this nifty track that Monster designed the door slides on the wall and leaves the room more open.

The handle is made from a piece of rope that goes thru both sides of the door so all ya need to do is grab the rope and slide to

go in

or git out!

Today Monster Man is cuttin' the hole in the new counter top for the bucket sink.
This is a git'r right the first time thing so I'm stayin' in the house workin' on the vanity while he works out his plan for a successful cut. LOL

The vanity was sanded and given a blue wash....I went ahead and put the old hardware back on the drawers and door but I decided to make a couple more changes to the vanity.

#1
To make the vanity look more aged I'll do a crackle effect using Elmers Glue.
Yeah, glue! Not some expensive crackle product but plain old school glue.

Below is the link for how ya do it.

Another link to a blog for examples

I was surprised to see muslin fabric crackled.
But it gave me ideas on how to incorporate fabric on the walls to achieve an old look.

Lastly the doors & drawers

#2
Change the hardware to rope pulls

Reckon I best git back to wall colors since the walls are only primed and they need to be painted before the counter top goes on.

See ya on the next go around.

Freedom!

We finally reached our goal to be debt free.

Its a wonderful new feelin' that we celebrated last night with cheesecake.

Yeaaaah, we splurged on the budget and let loose on the calories fer sure!!

We're excited about startin' a new chapter in our life.
By keepin' to our "Waste Not, Want Not " and " Less Is More" motto's we hope to remain free

....and start savin' up for a new truck before we send ours out to pasture!

Decoratin' Onna Budget

  Junkin' Up The Homestead

One thing about livin' in the desert, and in the boonies as well, is the lack of building material available. Unless ya want to travel a few hundred miles, there ain't a wide selection.
We really learned just how limited that selection was when we began a bathroom repair that  turned into a DYI episode.

What started out as a fix for a wobbly mirror resulted in a hole in the drywall.

Just a small hole but we'd have to purchase an entire sheet of drywall to fix it
.....that's IF we fixed the hole professionally. LOL

Ya might be thinkin' we could've substituted some other material, and The Monster Man sure tried to get me to agree to some ideas,
but I would've known what was behind the wall even if you dint!
Off to Home Depot we went.

Gender Roles  Outdated

Public University To Offer Course On

‘Sibling Incest’

 Class Description Below

WGST 8005/German 8087/English 8110 - Topics in Women's and Gender Studies-Humanities
Stefani Engelstein
MW 2:00-3:15pm | Strickland Hall 115
Semester Topic: Sibling Incest in Theory and Literature
This course will explore a number of theoretical and critical perspectives on incest, and sibling incest in particular, alongside readings of literature of the late eighteenth through early twentieth century. We will consider the way incest functions to establish or to upset identity in the context of national, religious, racial, and familial structures. We will also examine the deployment of erotic desire, love, and sympathy as political, economic, and textual strategies, and analyze the gender dynamics involved in such deployment. Finally, we will investigate the positioning of the incest taboo at the border of nature and culture, or science and the humanities, in the context of the founding of disciplines and the policing of their boundaries.
No knowledge of German is required for this course, but Masters students in German Studies will be expected to read texts in German when that was the language of composition.

Fun With The Galloping Knutsons

Bringing in 2013

It was a joy to finally see snow fall on Christmas because the kids were coming
......and we had plans!

Course the snow came in handy for other things too.

We had a fun 3 days with the kids that included
playing Aggravation,
 sledding,
more Aggravation,
 making tamales,
playing Yahtzee,
 football games,
more Aggravation,
more Yahtzee,
and a New Years birthday party.

Of course we ate like royalty all 3 days,
but as cold as it was I bet we burned it off just tryin' to keep warm.....
and walk back 'n forth to the house from sledding! :))
